Abigale Lee
Miller (born September 21, 1965), is a famous American choreographer who also
teaches dance and is a reality TV star. She is the founder of the Abby Lee
Dance Company, which was featured on the reality television series Dance Moms
for eight seasons. On June 27, 2016, Miller pleaded guilty to fraudulent
bankruptcy in felony. She was sentenced for one year and a day in federal
prison, and was released on the 27th of March of 2018. In April of 2018 she was
diagnosed with lymphoma, which is a type of cancer, and left her unable to
walk. She relies on a wheelchair for mobility. Miller was born in Penn Hills,
Pennsylvania. Her mother taught her to dance at the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio.
Miller was 14 when she was asked to choreograph and coaching duties on one of
her mother’s competitive dance teams. Miller was eventually able to take over
the studio in 1995 and renamed it Reign Dance Productions. Miller was certified
by Dance Masters of America in 1986 and was made an official member of Dance
Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter 10 in February 2012. However, her membership
was terminated by the DMA in February 2012 after the DMA claimed that Miller's
reality-TV series Dance Moms was "a complete misrepresentation of teachers
and students of dance and is damaging to the dance profession."
