Abi Clarke
In the past
(i.e. the early 2020s, comedians could have expected to spend several years
traveling around the UK as stand-ups, before getting invited to appear on a
television panel show and selling out an arena tour. However, the reality is
that it's not as simple. Comedy is one form of art which has managed to
continue to be performed front of an audience, but we're not going to see arena
tours any time soon. One Bristol comedian has found an international audience
during lockdown via social media. Abi Clarke wasn't aiming to become a famous
internet personality. Abi Clarke is a young woman of 24 who lives in Henbury
along with her parents, created her first online video to "build a
community of similar people who would appreciate my stand-up comedy."
"I had been performing frequently in Devon to men who were in their 50s
and were not as enthusiastic about my Love Island Sims and Twilight references,
so it was the right time to search online for others who were young and would
enjoy my stand-up comedy." Abi, who lives in Henbury with her parents has
continued to upload her video content to Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. She
draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including conversations with
strangers, the chat room, and writing down her thoughts on her smartphone.
